I won't post rants like this often, or at least I hope I won't but this one is very relevant.
I have a huge problem when a TV show ends with a cliffhanger. And I'm not just talking about for the season, that's fine. Ending a season on a cliffhanger makes the first episode of the new season exciting. I'm talking about when the season ends in a cliffhanger when the show is getting cancelled.
As I mentioned before I get very into my TV programs and into movies and book series, so when something happens to them that I wasn't expecting, it literally irks me for days. This being my current mood because I just found out that one of my favorte TV shows, ABC Family's The Lying Game is not being renewed for a new season.
Now I know that this show may not be everyone's cup of tea, it's not everyone's thing. But I very much enjoyed it and am very upset that it will not be returning. I'm even more miffed because the previous season ended on a cliffhanger. The news of it's cancellation was released this morning and I'm trying to not think about it but it keeps creeping back into the foreground of my mind and it's irritating me. Not only did I love the actors, I also loved the storyline and now it's OVER. With no resolution.
Another show of mine that recently ended was a show that originally aired in the UK. I watched it on BBC America. It was called Merlin. Since I was a kid I've been obsessed with stories, movies and TV shows involving King Arthur and Camelot, since I first saw the animated movie Quest for Camelot. So when I got into this show it was like magic, pun intended. And it ended. It's over. I will give the show some credit for not ending the show with a cliffhanger, though I was upset that King Arthur died. (My Mom gets really mouthy with me when I complain about Arthur dying because he did die in real life.) But come on, it wasn't a realistic show, they didn't need to kill him off.
This was a not so short rant. Note to telveision producers and writers for the future: If you are going to cancel or end a TV program, please do not end it on a cliffhanger. And if you know the show isn't going to continue, give viewers closure.
Lots of Love
Emily
