Update

Sorry it's been a while since I've made any posts. This is about to be a long one cause I'm going to let you know where I've been.

So since my last post, I've moved into an apartment near my university for school. I'm living with some of my close friends and we've been getting into our routine of getting up every morning and walking across the bridge to sit in classes that have nothing to do with our majors or future plans and then coming home and going to sleep way earlier than we'd like. I'm enjoying apartment life a lot more than I enjoyed dorm life my previous year. Not to mention my roommates and I get a long great and my best friend lives right down the hall.

So far my second year of college has been going quite well. I'm not really thrilled with all the classes I'm being forced to take, though I'm doing well in them. I just see general education classes as a waste of time and money. I have no need to take Dynamic Earth or mathematics to be in the profession I'm working towards. It's just useless to me. But my general education classes aren't even my biggest problem. For my major, Theatre Studies, I've taken all the acting classes I'll be able to take at my university. After your first year they don't allow students to take anymore acting classes. Now, I go to a school that has a presitgous theatre program, it's talked about by working actors for it's credibility, so I think it's a bit ridiculous that I can't take anymore acting classes.

This is my dilemma. My major is a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre Studies. In order to take acting classes after my first year I have to be a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting. This doesn't sound like an issue except for the fact that in order to be a BFA I have to audition for the program. That shouldn't be a big deal, I mean I want to be an actress so I'm going to have to get used to auditioning and that's not my problem. I understand the importance of needing to audition but my problem is that I don't have a lot of auditioning experience and you only get one chance to audition for the elusive program, and if you don't get in the first try, you can't be a BFA. But because I can't take anymore acting classes, I don't feel prepared to use my one shot at the BFA program.

Now, I have a friend who was at my university last year. He auditioned for the program and was denied so he transferred to a school in Chicago and from what I hear it's a complete 180 difference. After talking with him, I'm now highly considering transferring to his university. The difference that going to that school and being able to take acting classes for the next four years of my college life is like a drug. It's all I can think about. I want to transfer there so badly now. I mean , not only because of the school but the lifestyle. To live in Chicago, I can't even imagine how enchanting it will be.

Making this decision was easy. Making it happen though, having the funds to transfer, is going to be a work in progress. I promise to start blogging more and giving more updates on what is going on.

Lots of love,
Emily
